Choosing a therapist

Location, cost and making sure a therapist is adequately qualified/registered is important. The more complex task is how to choose someone that you’ll feel ‘comfortable enough’ to begin talking with.

The relationship you build together matters. The decision to make contact with a therapist is often a difficult step to take. Meeting someone new can be an anxiety inducing process, let alone when you are doing so to talk about things that may be very personal and private. Therapy is a different relationship. The focus is on you and your life and in the beginning it can feel a bit strange talking a lot about yourself.

It may be that you want to speak to or meet with a few therapists before making a final decision and I very much encourage doing so. I will answer any questions that might help you to decide whether to start therapy.
